PRIMARY OBJECTIVES OF THE ANESTHESIOLOGY AND INTENSIVE THERAPY UNIT OF THE CARDIOVASCULAR SURGERY DEPARTMENT OF RCHCC
The Anesthesiology and Intensive Therapy Unit was established in January of 2018. The Unit provides support to operations of the Cardiovascular Surgery Department. The Unit has six beds. There are 38 employees including 11 medical officers.
The majority of our patients are persons affected by coronary heart disease, acquired and congenital heart defects, cardiomyopathy, thoracic aneurysm, peripheral artery impairments and lower extremity vein pathologies that require surgical treatment. Employees of the Unit provide anaesthetic support during open-heart surgery with the use of artificial and assisted circulation, off-pump support techniques, hybrid technologies, and assist during operations on magistral and peripheral arteries.
To maintain patients with such complicated cases, the Unit is outfitted with the most advanced equipment: monitoring systems, expert-class anaesthesia and respiratory apparatuses, circulatory assist devices (for intra-aortic balloon counterpulsation and extracorporeal membrane oxygenation), machines for renal replacement therapy, latest pharmaceuticals, defibrillators and dose delivery and enteral feeding systems. The Intensive Therapy Unit has all the accommodations for comfortable stay of patients in private and semi-private rooms that feature a modern air conditioning system. Our comprehensive preemptive patient rehabilitation scheme facilitates the reduction of the duration of stay in the inpatient facilities and promotes patient restoration.
When it is necessary, we enlist the assistance of specialized medical professionals of the Center and engage external consultants (leading experts of Belarusian Ministry of Health and specialists of Belarusian Medical Academy of Postgraduate Education) for the selected treatment and diagnostic activities.
