Equipment used: endoscopic virtual simulator with the haptic feedback feature (made in USA and Canada)
training duration - 40 hours (five days)
number of listeners – 2 to 4 persons
Nowadays, it is deemed unacceptable for medical professionals to train primary endoscopic skills directly on a patient. Before the first intervention is performed by a physician, they need to train their endoscopic skills using a virtual endoscopic simulator, which makes it possible to learn main endoscopic techniques without risking patient’s health; to repeat procedures as many times as is necessary to perfect skills without the danger of development of any actual complication; to debrief and correct mistakes under the guidance of an instructor; and to evaluate the attained manipulation performance skill level. Some important advantages of a simulation training are reduced anxiety of the physician during the first unaided manipulations and the opportunity to gain clinical experience in a virtual environment for its subsequent effective application in real-life scenarios.
This training method is effective in the development of necessary skills and competencies in trainees and in preparing medical specialists to future independent work with patients.
The aim of the “Diagnostic and Therapeutic Endoscopy” competence development program is training and professional development of endoscopists in diagnosis and therapy with the use endoscopic equipment.
The objectives of the training program are learning the essential techniques of diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy of the digestive tract and tracheobronchial tree, as well as acquiring, consolidation and perfection of endoscopic skills with the use of a simulator.
Types of training activities: lectures and practical training sessions.
Teaching methods: discussion of the essential theoretic aspects of endoscopic manipulations, general endoscopic anatomy and endoscopic semiotics of various pathologic conditions and disorders of the digestive tract and tracheobronchial tree, as well as training endoscopic manipulation skills using a simulator.
Training aids: computers, multimedia projector, printed materials, endoscopic simulator and the training endoscopic equipment set CAE Healthcare/METI virtual endoscopic simulator (USA, Canada).
The duration of the competence development program is one week (40 hours), with full time mode of study.
Final skill and knowledge assessment is carried out in the form of an interview.
