In many European, Asian and American countries, laparoscopical surgery of segmented intestine and rectum in the presence of benign and malignant pathologies is a golden standard, and a part of therapeutic guidelines.

Learning the procedures of laparoscopical surgery of segmented intestine and rectum would allow operating surgeons, oncology surgeons and proctologists to extend the application of this modern technique to clinics of the Republic of Belarus, improve physicians’ level of proficiency and theoretical knowledge, make the operation a standard technique to minimize surgical and oncological complications, and improve the accessibility of this advanced technique to Belarusians.

The aim of the “Laparoscopical Surgery of Segmented Intestine and Rectum” Competence Development Program is training and professional development of operating surgeons, oncology surgeons and proctologists to master segmented intestine and rectum laparoscopical surgery.

The objectives of the training program are: studying the theory and the standardized procedure of laparoscopical surgery of segmented intestine and rectum, studying the safety principles for this type of surgery, mastering basic endovideosurgery skills at the Simulation Center with the use of advanced simulators.

Teaching methods: discussion of theoretical basics of laparoscopical surgery of segmented intestine and rectum and its safety; practical case studies of laparoscopical surgery operations on various sections of segmented intestine and rectum in the presence of malignant and benign pathologies with the use of unedited video recordings of surgical interventions from the Center's data base, conducting life operations telecasted from the Center’s surgical facilities and featuring full-duplex audio- and videoconferencing with the instructor/operator; acquiring and mastering basic endovideosurgery skills with the use of simulators.
