Equipment: multi-function patient simulator for training CPAP therapy skills and noninvasive equipment-assisted respiratory support (USA, Canada, Germany).
training duration - 40 hours (five days)
number of listeners – 2 to 4 students
Throughout the last decade, an increase in the number of chronic cerebrovascular disorders, arterial hypertension, diabetes mellitus and coronary heart disease was being observed. This is driven by the aggravation of risk factors: smoking, obesity, hypercholesterolemia, stresses and sedentary lifestyle. Presently, physicians also classify dissomnic disorders as a risk factor since prevalence of such disorders is on a steep rise. According to a number of epidemiological surveys of various groups of population, up to 95% of individuals experience problems related to sleep. In 16 to 21% of cases, symptoms of insomnia occur three times a week, and in 10 to 28% of cases they have an elevated severity. Breathing disorders associated with sleep take on particular significance. The prevalence of the obstructive sleep apnea syndrome (OSA) is 5 to 7% of the total population over 30 years old. Severe forms of the disorder were revealed in 1 to 2% of the said group. In persons over 62 years old, OSA is much more prevalent, and accounts for about 30% in men and about 20% in women. In persons over 65 years old, the incidence rate of the disorder may reach up to 60%.
The aim of the competence development program is expansion of theoretic knowledge and practical skills, professional development of medical specialists in the field of polysomnography, CPAP therapy and non-invasive respiratory support in cases of respiratory disturbance, including those occurring while asleep.
The objectives of the training program are: acquiring, development and systematization of knowledge on technical capabilities in the field of somnology, particularities of diagnosis of nocturnal sleep and disorders associated with sleep disturbances; familiarization with novel polysomnography and CPAP therapy equipment; mastering basic skills of diagnostic and treatment of sleep disorders and sleep-associated disorders.
Types of training activities: lectures and practical training sessions.
Teaching aids: computing and projecting devices, polysomnography station, CPAP therapy apparatuses and non-invasive respiratory support devices, CPAP therapy skill training simulator, equipment of the Anesthesiology and Intensive Therapy Department.
Teaching methods: clinical case studies, analysis and interpretation of X-ray, laboratory and instrumental study data, solving case problems, training practical skills using simulation equipment, establishing clinical diagnoses and generating treatment orders.
The duration of the competence development program is one week (40 hours), with full time mode of study.
Final skills and knowledge assessment is carried out in the form of an interview.
