INDICATIONS FOR A HYDROGEN BREATH TEST
- chronic diarrhea
- frequent
- abdominal pain bloating
The cause of these symptoms may be a violation of the absorption of lactose (milk sugar, which is contained in milk and dairy products), fructose (fruit sugar), saccharose, as well as the bacterial overgrowth syndrome in the small intestine (BOS).
HOW TO DETERMINE THE PRESENCE OF LACTOSE INTOLERANCE, FRUCTOSE INTOLERANCE, SACCHAROSE INTOLERANCE AND BOS
The most accurate results are given by a hydrogen breath test.
The test is carried out as follows:
The patient drinks a small amount of a special solution with an empty stomach, which enters the small intestine after a certain time. The concentration of hydrogen in the air exhaled by the patient is measured before and after taking the liquid. If the hydrogen concentration rises to a certain value after taking the liquid, it indicates a disease or intolerance. Hydrogen is formed in the human body if carbohydrates are partially or not absorbed at all. In this case, carbohydrates move into the colon and are broken down in it by certain bacteria - hydrogen is formed. Through the bloodstream, it enters the lungs in the form of a dissolved form and is exhaled by the patient.
The test is performed after a night of fasting (when a stomach is empty). Measurements are carried out before the reception and with a 0-minute interval after, for 3 hours. Duration of the test for the diagnosis of BOS is 2 hours.
The breath test technology does not allow multiple tests to be performed at the same time. Specifics test solution are provided for each test. If the conditions for preparing for the tests are not followed, the test result will be unreliable.
CONTRAINDICATIONS:
