Guidelines of patient preparation for sample collection for microscopic studies of secretions of the genito-urinary organs

  1. Refrain from sexual contacts for three days before testing.
  2. On the day of the test, do not use washing agents to perform intimate hygiene.
  3. Do not urinate two to three hours before sampling.
  4. Stop using topical drugs for 48 to 72 hours before sampling.
  5. For one month before the test, do not take antimicrobial and antimycotic drugs.

Additional recommendations for women:

  • Women shall suspend vaginal douching and using vaginal suppositories, ointments, tampons for three days before the test. Sampling shall not be performed during menstruation (it is allowed three days after its completion).
  • It is desirable to take samples from the urogenital tract in the middle of the menstrual cycle (if the disorder has no apparent manifestations) or during the days with no bloody discharges (in cases of aggravation of the process).
  • Smears are taken before a gynecological examination and ultrasonography, or two days after ultrasonography or a cytological study, or two weeks after a biopsy.

Sampling of prostate gland liquid.

  • Do not take antibiotics for one month.
  • Refrain from sexual contacts for no less than five days before the test.
  • On the day of the test, do not use washing agents to perform intimate hygiene.
  • Urinate before sampling.
  • Sampling of prostate gland liquid shall not be performed on the same day with STD diagnosis scraping.
