To achieve the highest possible accuracy of pelvic organ examinations, one of the following ultrasonography techniques is used: abdominal or transvaginal ultrasonography.
INDICATIONS TO PELVIC ORGAN ULTRASONOGRAPHY
- a painful condition;
- occurrence of pathologic space-occupying lesions;
- inflammatory changes;
- suspected congenital pathology of internal genital organs;
- a post-surgical condition;
- disruption of menstrual period;
- uterine bleeding;
- use of intrauterine contraceptives.
THE PROCEDURE OF PELVIC ORGAN ULTRASONOGRAPHY
Abdominal ultrasonography. This is the least uncomfortable ultrasonography method since the sensor moves at the lower part of the stomach and covers projections of all the studied organs. This technique is used to examine urinary bladder, uterus, uterine tubes, ovaries, the prostate gland and seminal vesicles.
Transvaginal ultrasonography. This technique is used to study pelvic organs in women with the use of an intracavitary (intravaginal) sensor. The procedure makes it possible to estimate the location, forms, contours and anatomical organization of uterus, evaluate the structure and acoustic solidity of myometrium and endometrium, and to assess the locations, contours, anatomical organization and acoustic solidity of ovaries.
CONTRAINDICATIONS:
There are no absolute contraindications.
THE PROCEDURE OF PELVIC ORGAN ULTRASONOGRAPHY
